“Goro and Fumi: There Will Always Be Love”, an exhibition featuring work by the late Goro Kakei, has opened at Gallery TOM in Shibuya, Tokyo. A year after his passing, the exhibition features a selection of the sculptor’s paintings, sculptures, and woodblock prints as well as the genre-defying pieces that truly capture the essence of his work. The exhibition also features the works from his later years which feature toilet paper tubes.

Upstairs on the gallery’s second floor, Kakei’s sketchbooks filled with half-completed ideas give a glimpse into his creative process. Gallery TOM’s curator Harue Murayama and Kakei, before his passing, made a promise that Murayama would hold an exhibition which would contain the three large-scale drawings that are on display. The display stand was crafted by artist Chikara Matsumoto.
