Choreographies of the Everyday

“Directed Games” is one of the works currently on display at Choreographies of the Everyday, an exhibition currently open at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. This film by Brazilian artist Jonathas de Andrade takes place in a small village in the semi-arid region of north-eastern Brazil, home to a community which has developed a unique sign language, and contains creative dialogues which overcome the constraints of communication.

Similarly to the film’s talk event held at Nihonbashi Hamacho LAB in 2020, a special film screening and live session co-organized with Hamacho Liberal Arts will be held on November 9, with Jonathas de Andrade and Homero Basílio, who worked on the music for the film, participating in person. During the film, audience members will be encouraged to make sounds during the film and use sounds, vibrations, and rhythms to personally experience the aural world of the film.
