Kyohei Sakaguchi, who provides an illustration for the Editor’s Note of each issue of Subsequence, has just published a new book.

The book contains all 49 essays that were serialized in the Nishinippon Shimbun from August to October of 2023 alongside an all-new 5000-word afterword. It contains all sorts of insights gleaned from Sakaguchi’s everyday life from the various encounters he had upon returning to his home of Kumamoto, what he learned from working in the fields during COVID-19, as well as his long-term relationship with depression.

Junpei Niki, who also is art director for Subsequence, designed the cover. The delicate watercolor painted by Sakaguchi is a perfect match for the content of the book which seeks to cast its focus on the gently glittering aspects of daily life.
