Poet-singers are known for their traveling nature as they move from place to place and share messages and information through their songs. From a unique position one step removed from society, poet-singers have taken on all sorts of roles in the past, from passing down royal and aristocratic lineages and heroic tales, inspiring soldiers on the battlefield with their music, and even as social critics of those with power. From the Eurasian continent to Africa, poet-singers have adapted in line with popular culture and the performing arts, allowing them to still live on today. Enjoy their performances alongside their art and material culture in this exhibition.
