soma folk explores the materials and handiwork methods rooted in the lands that they visit across Asia, including Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan, and implement them in their own handicrafts. An exhibition by soma folk is being held in Gallery Hakuden in Kyotamba, Kyoto. A calendar that utilizes letterpress printing with hand-made paper from the Vietnamese dó tree, a hand-knitted bag using lotus silk from Myanmar, dyed black robes from Korea, clothes dyed with sukumo indigo from Tokushima in Japan, a bag dyed with persimmon-based dye from Minamiyamashiro in Kyoto… In this exhibition, experience the creative world of Gwen Chan, founder of soma folk, through pieces that use the natural bounty of faraway lands.
