Our long-term translator Sam Bett, who has been with us since volume 1 of Subsequence, was awarded the Crime Fiction in Translation Dagger in the Dagger Awards by the Crime Writers’ Association in July for his translation of “The Night of Baba Yaga” (originally published in Japan by Kawade Shobo Shinsha and in the US by Soho Crime) alongside the author Akira Otani. We would like to extend our congratulations to Sam and Otani on this achievement.

The Dagger Awards is one of the most renowned awards for mystery novels in the world, alongside the Edgar Awards in the US. “The Night of Baba Yaga” has also been selected as a finalist in the Lambda Literary Awards in the LGBTQ+ Mystery category with the winner announced in October.
