Subsequence was interviewed for a special feature “Kamibaitai ga tsunagu mirai (Toward the Future Connected by Paper Media).”
Amidst the continuing recession we see in publishing there are magazines coming to life that dare to find value in the dissemination of information through print media to try and create new networks alongside brand value in a way that is different from magazine distribution that has lower profits with high sales volume. For this special feature we interview people involved in editing magazines, doujinshi (self-published work), and small press through a wide range of genres that include fashion, lifestyle, culture & art, cities & architecture, travel, outdoor activities, and publishing. Together we consider and seek out the possibilities that each of us sees in print media.-(An excerpt from the special feature)
When speaking about our magazine we had the chance to explain everything from the origin of the title to the concept; how we approach the overall production process, which includes planning, editing, design, printing, binding, etc. for each issue, as well as the things we value the most. In addition to our perspective on production we discussed the logistics, sales, and thoughts we have on the different way of operating a magazine when compared to other previous publications. All the details of the thoroughly conducted interview are available for review. We hope you will pick up a copy at your local bookstore.
