Ondulatoire” a solo exhibition by photographer Gentaro Ishizuka, whose “Gold Rush Diary” is serialized in this magazine, is currently being held at the gallery “KOTARO NUKAGA” in Roppongi.

The main motif of this work is the opening of Sainte Marie de la Tourette (Lyon, France, completed in 1960), designed by Le Corbusier, one of the most famous architects of the 20th century.
Designed by Iannis Xenakis, a mathematician and composer who was a pupil of Corbusier, the louvers in this opening have a unique rhythm, which he called “ondulatoire” (wavy), due to the uneven spacing of the perpendicular materials based on mathematical order.

Mr. Ishizuka’s photographs also capture the flickering light in the interior of the Chandigarh College of Architecture (India, completed in 1965), another “ondulatoire” created by the aforementioned two artists. It seems to lead us to reconsider the existence of architectural space as a three-dimensional form of music, and of the photographic print as a three-dimensional form of the visual image, in a multi-layered way.

Period: until March 31 (Thu)
Venue: KOTARO NUKAGA (ROPPONGI)
Piramide Bldg. 2F, 6-6-9 Roppongi, Minato-Ku, Tokyo
