Kazuyo Kinoshita, Untitled, 1975, Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka

The first domestic exhbition for late Kobe-based artist Kazuyo Kinoshita (1939-1994) is currently being held at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka. After gradating from what is now Kyoto City University of Arts, Kinoshita began her art career with earnest during the ‘60s, earning renown in Japan and worldwide. Moving on from works that utilized photographs and sought to question existence itself, during the ‘80s she poured her energies into painting. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer during the ‘90s and she continued to hold onto her ardent desire to paint even with the limited time she had left. Over the course of her thirty-year-long career, she left the world with over 1,200 pieces of art. These works were stored in Japan, but Kinoshita never had a solo exhibition in the country before she died. Ever since her works were featured in an exhibition abroad in 2015, there has been a reexamination of her work. This exhibition marks her first ever solo exhibition in Japan.
