An exhibition by Naoto Ishii and Sumiko Ishii is currently underway at the exhibition space Baat located in Sansuhwa, a tea house in Hannam-dong, Seoul, South Korea. Sansuhwa provides a wide collection of teas and tea ware and also runs cultural programs where visitors can learn about Chinese and Korean teas. Naoto and Sumiko are artists who live in Tamba, Kyoto. Naoto makes pottery in the kiln near their home in a forest clearing and Sumiko engages in dialog with the plants that serve as her base materials as she creates with paper and fabric. This exhibition of their work is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the journey and history of pottery, paper, and fabric cultivated in Japan.
