Nakaji Yasui Exhibition

Subsequence

2023.12.22

An exhibition featuring the works of Nakaji Yasui (1903-42), a photographer who applied himself to a variety of techniques during Japan’s modernist photography boom in the 1930s, is currently open at Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art. Yasui was active in a tumultuous time that covered the end of Japan’s Taisho period to the start of the Pacific War. He sought to capture moments from this time on film and passed away at the young age of 38. Through Yasui’s own vintage prints and 24 modern prints newly created for this exhibition, this is an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the photographer’s life through 63 distinct works.
